Explaining Manual Osteopathy

What is Manual Osteopathy anyway?

Osteopathy is a form of physical therapy that involves the mobilization of joints and soft tissue, along with active and passive stretching techniques in order to improve range of motion and blood circulation. Osteopathy moves muscle tissue in a fashion that empowers the body’s innate healing function to kick in and go to work. The soft tissue of our body is meant to be mobile and pliable. Hence, Osteopaths use many types of mobilization techniques: joint mobilization, organ mobilization, and cranial bone mobilization. When these structures are mobile, our skeletal and nervous system can function how it was intended.

The theory is that a human being is born with all the faculties within itself to heal and self regulate, and osteopaths are simply facilitators in this process. Manual Osteopaths work with structures throughout the whole body including bones, soft tissue, cranial bones, the viscera, fascia, and lymphatic vessels. This is why Osteopathy is a holistic approach to bringing the body back to balance. Beyond the hands on work in a clinical setting, Manual Osteopaths supplement their in person practice with exercise regimes and nutrition plans that are provided to the patient, so they are able to perform self care in between appointments.

Osteopathy can be used to treat everything from back pain, chronic pain, arthritis, neurological disorders, acute injuries, headaches, and much more.

I truly love Osteopathy and know you will too!
