Yin & Yang Explained ~ Chinese Medicine Theory Made Simple

Yin and Yang are more than just a fancy circular symbol. In Chinese Medicine, it is the base of what all other TCM fundamentals are built on.

Yin can be likened to adjectives like dark, black, winter, quiet, stillness, the moon, inward…

On the flip side, Yang is connected to bright, white, summer, exuberant, movement, the sun, and outwardness.

In our bodies, Yin is closely related to body fluids such as blood, lymphatic fluid, cerebrospinal fluid, and joint fluid.

Yang on the other hand, has more to do with the active functioning of our organs and internal processes.

Yin and Yang rely on each other, and also balance each other out.

The body can be looked at like an engine. The engine needs the correct parts and electrical sparks to function, and relies heavily on oil, gas, and other engine fluids to lubricate parts.

When Yin and Yang are out of balance, symptoms develop and eventually pathologies.

Chinese Medicine excels at detecting these imbalances before they become deep rooted disease.

Hopefully this clears up some confusion about Yin and Yang. Please feel free to ask questions!
